Employers who offer workplace programs on substance abuse have found serious benefits to both employees and the company.  Employers with successful drug-free workplace programs report improvements in morale and productivity, and decreases in absenteeism, accidents, downtime, turnover, and theft.  Employers with longstanding programs report better health status among employees and family members and decreased use of medical benefits by these same groups.  Some organizations with drug-free workplace programs qualify for incentives, such as decreased costs for workers’ compensation and other kinds of insurance.  In addition, the NLESB offers a number of classes to benefit Corporate America.

Recognizing Substance Abuse in the Workplace

Team Building

Team Building is more than several individuals working together; it is a synergistic endeavor where great things can be accomplished. The team involves many unique individuals at different levels of skills, abilities, and motivation. This course will address the dysfunctions of a team: absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of communication, avoidance of accountability, and inattention to results. Through the true dynamics of teamwork a task force or even an organization is a place of accomplishing far more than any one person could even do alone.

Time Management

Time is something that we all have, but it is limited. This is not a course on how to make lists or even prioritize your daily obligations, because time management is life management. This course is about how to live, how to say no, how to understand and focus on core values: personal and organizational. The reality is we only have so much time in a day, a week, a month, or even a life, so how do you want to spend it. This course is a skill building class and you will learn how to manage your time, rather than being managed by it. This is one of the critical differences in becoming a leader.

Change Management

Change, even little change, can be a great stress to any individual or within an organization. Change can be very difficult, but even more difficult is to manage the changes of others. This course is about the impact of change and how to address issues and minimize the impact of those in the organization through communication, trust building, and understanding the different stages of stress management or grief. Little things don’t mean a lot; they mean everything to those going through this challenge. This course will greatly assist managers, supervisions, and leaders in accomplishing things through, not in spite of, people. Failing to address this change can be the one factor that becomes the bottleneck in you accomplishing results.

Conflict Negotiations

Everything in life and within an organization is a series of negotiations or conflict resolutions. This class is more of a class of survival for anyone who is a supervisor or leader. You need to lead through people, but leadership is accomplishing results. This course develops the leader’s skills in resolving real life issues and how to solve problems. Anyone who has been in a position of management knows the enormous amount of time you will spend on solving people problems again and again. This course is designed to help the supervisor in addressing issues and solving problems through negotiations skills.
